Global Wind Day recently took place on the 15th June, with events and initiatives worldwide to showcase the role of wind power in renewable energy. One school, Redbourn Infant and Nursery School in St. Albans, Herts, was given a grand tour of the UK headquarters of renewable energy firm the RES Group, in nearby Kings Langley, where they posed with a banner to mark the occasion before a massive wind turbine. Other highlights of the visit included a look at many different kinds of renewable energy resources, such as solar and wave power.
Six-year-old Maisie Smyth told the local paper: “I liked the train powered by the sun. When you put your hand on the solar panel it stops but when it is sunny the train goes faster.” RES head of communications Andrea Wood added: “I am really, really pleased with how the day went. For me the most important part was the children and educating them about renewable energy sources because they are our future. We feel it is very important to work with schools on this.”
