The government announced this week that it is making a scheme offering grants to householders seeking to install heating systems based on renewable energy available, with sums of up to £1,250 up for grabs. Renewable heating systems include solar panelling and biomass boilers, and it is systems such as these that the £15 million Premium Payment fund administered by the Energy Saving Trust, that’s has been created to encourage, with plans to subsidise around 25,000 heating installations for the four million UK homes that are reliant on systems that leave a large carbon footprint.
Applications for grants under the scheme opened at the start of the month and run until the closing deadline of next March. Climate Change Minister Greg Barker said: “This should be great news for people who are reliant on expensive oil or electric heating as the premium payment scheme is really aimed at them. “Getting money off an eco-heater will not just cut carbon emissions, it will also help create a market in developing, selling and installing kit like solar thermal panels or heat pumps.”
