Home energy experts at non-profit group Ebico gave one householder some top tips on how to get the most out of their underfloor heating this week. Writing on the This Is Money site in response to a homeowner’s query about how to efficiently use the underfloor heating in her flat, a spokesperson explained that the key lies in understanding how it operates. They pointed out that in the same way as radiator-based central heating, underfloor heating works in conjunction with a thermostat so will only provide heat when the room temperature drops below that setting.
However, as the heat is stored, it can take longer for rooms to heat up and cool down than with a traditional heating system. The spokesperson recommended keeping an eye on weather reports, so when cold temperatures are forecast for the following day, the thermostat can be set to take account of this and allow the underfloor heating to kick in at the right time, giving householders the right amount of low-cost heating for their needs.
