8 Energy Saving Tips for the Home

We’re all looking for extra ways to save money on our bills, especially for our homes. Here are 8 tips to help save you money on your energy bills.

Turn down the shower pressure

It can be a great luxury to have, but a high pressure shower can potentially use more water than you’d use in a bath.

Wash your clothes with colder water

Did you know 90% of your washing machine’s energy use is spent heating the water? Wash your clothes in colder temperatures and you’ll not only save energy, you’ll prevent shrinkage!

Skip the rinse and scrape the dishes

If you have a dishwasher, resist the urge to pre-rinse them and instead give them an extra scrape before sticking them in. It’ll save more water than you think.

Keep your fridges and freezers as full as possible

The fuller your fridges and freezers, the less hard they have to work to cool/freeze what’s currently in there. Empty space in either of these wastes not only energy but space as well.

Hang up your washing

If it’s warm or windy outside, hang up your washing. Air-dried clothes also smell much better!

Unplug your appliances

When you’re not using them, unplug your appliances to avoid using the extra energy that eats into your bills.

Let the sun really shine

Keep the curtains open on warm days as it will let warmth into your house. But remember to close them when the temperature drops and at night time.

Iron quicker

By taking your clothes out of the drier before they’re completely dry, you’ll save a lot of time on ironing since the clothes will iron faster – not to mentioning you’ll use less energy on your iron.
